Search for thai chief may be longer

The Finance Industry will on August 14 ask Thai Airways International's board to extend the application deadline for president, which would push the selection out past the September schedule.

Rungson Sriworasat, permanent secretary and chairman of the nomination committee, said yesterday that there were only two applicants, both outsiders, for THAI president at the July 23 closing.

However, the likely delay will not affect THAI's operations, he said.

Besides marketing expertise, the new president should have administrative skills to make THAI competitive, as it bears very high operating costs. The application deadline for THAI's chief financial officer is August 15.

solar farms light up

SPCG and Kyocera Corporation have started full operation of one of Southeast Asia's largest solar-power projects.

Since 2010, 35 solar farms totalling 257 megawatts have been constructed under the project and connected to the utility grid in the Northeast.

A ceremony held this month in Surin commemorated the launch of the installations.

The project has an annual power output of about 345 million kilowatt-hours - equal to the annual electrical consumption of 287,500 households based on average annual household consumption of 1,200kWh.

The power generated from the solar farms will be supplied to the Provincial Electricity Authority.

The companies say they hope that the new solar farms will reinforce the region's power supply. They remain committed to promoting solar energy as a way to attain a low-carbon society.
