The new president of the Stock Exchange of Thailand will emphasise product extension, new product creation and long-term investor base expansion, while ensuring quality improvement so that securities markets will be reliable sources of capital for the cou
"The exchange will focus on three directions together with quality improvement for the country’s reliable resources and become the region’s leading capital market." Kesara Manchusree, the 12th president of the SET, said yesterday.
While extending its existing products, more companies will be listed on the SET to enlarge the market with more product varieties including stocks and new derivatives from the country and abroad, she said.
This will allow operators to exploit capital markets and satisfy their investment needs.
The SET will also go ahead with its support for capital mobilisation of small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for a large share of total companies, through the stock exchange, given their financial troubles in expansion.
Focusing on new products and services for more integration, the SET will have new investment tools like commodities and fixed-income instruments, besides a focus on equities and derivatives, and extend post-trade services to cover markets in other countries, particularly neighbouring countries.
To expand the investor base, the SET will promote the understanding of investment to investors and people consistently, focusing mainly on groups that are just starting their careers due to longer periods for investment.
This could give returns from long-term investment and, then, benefit the country, as Thailand has stepped into an ageing society with financial needs for retirement.
Under the three planned directions, quality growth is needed to encourage more listed companies to go on the global stage’s rankings like the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
Market and information access will be made more efficient through a combination of online technology and services.
In the remainder of this year, |the stock exchange will follow the 2014 strategic plan to increase |the quality of listed companies, individual investors, intermediaries and services to cope with rising internal and external uncertainties and to establish regional connections.
The infrastructure project will also be set for completion.
