NBTC draws over Bt9bn from news channel license auction

Nation Multimedia Group (NMG) Friday morning was the top bidder of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC)'s auction of digital TV licenses in the category of news channel.



"The highest bid of Bt1.338 billion belongs to Nation Multimedia Group’s NBC Next Vision," Natee Sukonrat, the chairman of the NBTC’s Broadcasting Committee, announced.

The competition was as fierce as yesterday, when the NBTC launched the auctions in the categories of high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD). While bid prices under the HD category were all over Bt3 billion against the Bt1.51 billion start price, those for the SD category were well over Bt2 billion against start price of Bt380 million.

In the news channel category, from the start price of Bt220 million, the bid prices are well over Bt1 billion.

The category raised a total of Bt9.238 billion.

Ten companies vied for seven licenses for the news channel. Post TV, Mono Generation and I-Sport Media failed in the bid.

Here are the winners and their bid prices:

NBC Next Vision: Bt1,338 million

Voice TV: Bt1,330 million

Thai TV : Bt1,328 million

Springnews Television: Bt1,318 million

Thai News Network : Bt1,316 million

DN Broadcast : Bt1,310 million

3A Marketing : Bt1,298 million

After the completion of the two-day auction, the NBTC’s broadcasting committee will certify the results within 15 days.
