Tour operators have reported record ticket sales to Thailand as Myanmar citizens plan to visit the neighbouring country over the Thingyan New Year and Water Festival.
“The top selling tickets are for Bangkok, Thailand this year,” said a representative from Sun Far Travels & Tour Company, adding that family trips to Europe, the US, Japan and Hong Kong were also popular.
International airlines in Myanmar are busy promoting ticket sales during the Thingyan period, which is a national holiday.
“Our airline has already sold out all the tickets for Yangon-Bangkok and Yangon-Singapore between April 8 and 15,” an official from Shwe Myanmar Airline said.
Aye Marathar, marketing manager for MAI Airline, said that the airline was offering bigger promotions than before.
“We have already approved reducing the prices much more than last year. Despite the reduction of prices, we will provide full safety and services for passengers,” Aye Marathar said.
