Mitsui shows confidence in Thailand
Mitsui & Co, one of giant Japanese conglomerates, has confirmed its commitment to maintain investment in Thailand particularly in the energy sector.
Paying a visit to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday, Masami Iijima, president of Mitsui & Co, expressed his confidence in the government’s flood-management measures.
According to the release on thaigov.go.th, he showed his confidence that Thailand would recover from the flood impacts soon and this encouraged the group to further expand investment in the Kingdom, particularly in alternative energy.
A number of 51 units of Mitsui are in Thailand, operating in the export-import and manufacturing businesses. Its manufactured goods involve steel and machinery.
The company has been actively involved in several large-sized investment projects in Thailand. For example, it supplied equipment for the 1520MW combined cycle power project in Kaeng Khoi. Since 1960, it has also supplied various types of products and services for State Railway of Thailand amounting to more than US$400 million. In 2008, it also completed the construction of 20MW waste-wood fired power plant.
