Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) has sped past a significant milestone, witnessing global sales of more than 1.1 million for the current generation L200 (Triton) pickup truck since its launch in 2005.

“Over the last nine years, 1,148,000 L200s have been delivered, with Thai sales totalling 263,000 units and export sales amounting to 885,000,” said new MMTh president Masahiko Ueki. “This 77-per-cent share echoes the warm welcome the L200 has received in 158 countries where it is available. This is especially true in Europe, Asean and the Middle East, where customers have put their trust in us.”
Europe (excluding Russia and Ukraine) has remained MMTh’s largest export market for the L200, with sales of 198,530 units. The United Kingdom (54,900), Turkey (25,367), Germany (16,429), Italy (15,773), France (12,879) and Spain (10,216) make up the European Top Six.
The L200 has also played a significant corporate role in making Mitsubishi Motors the first automobile exporter in Thailand from its five local plants (to be supported by new local R&D facilities from 2015) and a strong profit contributor for the corporation overall.
In the longer term, this positive contribution should continue with the recently announced introduction of an all-new L200 pickup truck, scheduled for this coming autumn – a striking, low emission vehicle that takes many of its design cues from the acclaimed 2013 Concept GR-HEV show car.
