Mercedes-Benz sets all-time sales record

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has witnessed accelerated sales in 2013, surpassing the 10,000-vehicle mark for the first time since the parent-owned distributorship was formed in the kingdom.

Last year it sold 10,144 vehicles, thanks not only to a significant increase in the models offered – including the A-Class and CLA subcompacts – but also to its more competitive prices after having to compete with independent importers. The company also announced last year that it would not offer warranty, service or repairs for Mercedes-Benz models purchased from these importers from 2013 onwards. 
The German luxury carmaker is also planning to launch more new models this year, including the new C-Class, which represents its core-selling model. 
“2013 was a triumphant year for us not only because we achieved year-on-year growth of 56 per cent by selling 10,144 vehicles [2012: 6,513 vehicles], but also because we have set an all-time record for yearly sales since our establishment in Thailand, not to mention the fact that the figures extended our lead in the premium segment for the 13th consecutive year,” Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) president and CEO Michael Grewe said. “We continued to enjoy favourable response from customers, especially young-generation customers who have a passion for sportiness. The A-Class and CLA-Class were our most popular series while the C-, E- and S-Class series nicely kept their growth momentum. 
“The key to our sales success in 2013 was our comprehensive line-up of new, luxurious automobile innovations that covered various lifestyle preferences of all customer segments, especially the young generation,” he added. 
“Last year we introduced many new models that came complete with innovative design, greater sportiness and agility, including the new CLA-Class, the new gasoline E-Class, diesel-hybrid [BlueTec Hybrid] powertrains, the new E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, and the new S-Class. Another factor was a shift of customers towards officially imported vehicles for the peace of mind of buying from a trusted company, whose importing process is always transparent and accountable.” Grewe said. 
He said Mercedes-Benz Thailand will maintain its policy not to cover warranty claims of or provide after-sales service to unofficially imported Mercedes-Benz vehicles. 
“As a result of this after-sales policy, we witnessed an increasing number of customers who shifted towards buying from our authorised dealer network last year,” Grewe said.
