Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati is hoping to expand its market presence here with the launch of the new Ghibli sports sedan.
The Ghibli joins the Quattroporte as one of only two four-door models in the Italian marque’s product line-up. This is the first time in Maserati’s 100-year history that two four-door models are being offered in the same time frame.
The Ghibli and Ghibli S are priced at Bt6.9 million and Bt7.9 million, respectively. Both feature a new-generation twin turbo-charged 3.0-litre V6 engine and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. With an output of 410hp and 550Nm, the Ghibli S shoots forward from 0-100km/h in 5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 280 km/h. The Ghibli, meanwhile, delivers 330hp and 500Nm, has a top speed of 263 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
According to Maserati, the Ghibli shares parts of its core architecture, its chassis, its suspension architecture, V6 engine and the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with the Quattroporte. It is, however, 173mm shorter at the wheel base and 291mm shorter overall, and is 50kg lighter.
“Dynamic and precise handling is guaranteed by the car’s perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution, while the sophisticated suspension system and limited slip differential make every ride even more enjoyable,” said Pornsarin Maethivacharanondh, managing director of official Maserati dealer Empire Motor Sport.
“The Ghibli will be mass-marketed to reach a wide group of customers. We are confident it will be successful in Thailand just as it has been in other countries, because Maserati has created an alternative option and a different product to those in the existing market. Thai customers will be able to experience a new and attractive Italian midsize saloon in a segment currently dominated by Japanese and German automobile makers,” he said.
