MCOT, Thaicom launch smartphone-tablet app

MCOT and Thaicom have announced a new application named MConnect as a second screen for smartphone and tablet users.

Thanachai Wongthongsri, executive vice president of MCOT, said MConnect allowed mobile-device users to view MCOT channels, and they would be able to browse for additional information related to current TV programmes.

"The behaviour of users has changed and they utilise new technology to support their lifestyle, such as checking e-mail and accessing information. Therefore, we have developed the MConnect app to support the demand of users.

"The application allows TV viewers to respond to the programmes and make suggestions for live programming. Viewers will have much more joy watching TV programmes; they can collect reward points and shop online via their tablet or smartphone," Thanachai said.

The new application in the first stage will support iOS smartphones and will be available for Android mobile phones next month.

Patompob Suwansiri, chief marketing officer of Thaicom, said the firm had partnered with MCOT in providing MConnect.

"I think MConnect is entering a new era in broadcasting in Thailand. It will be able to provide end-to-end solutions to our customers and be able to create value-added and new services for Thaicom customers. It can also create new business via second screens in the near future," Patompob said.
