"Korat" to be second Bangkok in 7 years
Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt paints a rosy future for Nakhon Ratchasima, the northeastern province which is known better among Thais as Korat.
He said that in seven years, the province would be the second Bangkok in seven years, thanks to the Bt2 trillion infrastructure investment.
Under the investment scheme, in seven years, there is a high-speed train project to link Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima, which promises the travelling time of only 90 minutes. Aside, two double-track rail routes are planned for the Northeast, which will also benefit Nakhon Ratchasima. A new motorway, linking the province with Bang Pa-In, is planned.
At the "Thailand Future 2020" roadshow, opened in the province today, Chadchart said in his speech that the investment would spur economic growth in all regions of Thailand particularly the Northeast. Nakhon Ratchasima is likened as a the gateway to the region.
