Jetro Bangkok gets new head

The Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro), headquartered in Tokyo, has announced the appointment of Masayasu Hosumi as the new president of its Bangkok office and chief representative for Asean and South Asia.

Hosumi succeeds Setsuo Iuchi, who will return to Japan.

Under Hosumi's leadership, Jetro Bangkok will continue to carry on bilateral trade and investment tie-ups between Thailand and Japan, the organisation said.

"We would like to expand our bilateral trade and investment relations with Thailand, a country that has been the centre of the region and has always been open to the rest of the world," Hosumi said.

In the meantime, regional cooperation will play more significant roles when the Asean Economic Community (AEC) kicks off next year. Consequently, Thailand's geographical advantages including the Japanese business community's keen interest in business expansion in this region will make the accession to AEC prosper, Jetro says.

Hosumi earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Yokohama National University. He has served the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and other governmental organisations in Japan for more than 30 years. His responsibilities and experience have covered international trade and energy policy as well as police affairs.
