Ford sells over 3,000 vehicles in Feb; new urban SUV hits the road

As its new "hot" EcoSport SUV goes on sale, Ford Thailand reports that it sold 3,114 various models in February amid a slowing domestic auto industry that is feeling the effects of a weaker economy and the continuing political impasse.

Ford's overall vehicle sales represent a 4.4-per-cent market share for the month. February's sales were led by the new Ford Ranger, 2,084 of which were sold thanks to continuing demand for both manual- and automatic-transmission variants. Ford also sold 749 of its sporty Fiestas last month, boosted by the recent introduction of the high performance 1.0L EcoBoost engine, named "International Engine of the Year" in 2012 and 2013.

Meanwhile, according to Ford, customer deliveries for the EcoSport will start this month, with the compact, urban SUV set to open a new market segment for the American automaker in Thailand.

"Demand for the all-new EcoSport has been great, and we're excited for customers to start taking delivery across Thailand," said Ford Thailand managing director Yukontorn "Vickie" Wisadkosin. "With SUV capability and versatility matched by its stylish design, smart features and impressive fuel economy, the all-new EcoSport is enjoying really strong appeal in a new segment that it's helping to define."
