Last month, Ford Thailand sold 3,378 units at retail, nearly 5 per cent of the total market, thanks to continuing demand for the redesigned Ranger pickup and EcoSport SUV.
“The industry remained challenging in May but we continued to make progress on our ongoing product-led transformation in Thailand, as the Ford brand appeal increasingly strengthens among consumers,” said managing director Yukontorn Wisadkosin.
Although the economy remained stalled during the month, braking the auto industry, Ford continued to make significant gains, capturing 4.9 per cent of the market – an increase of 1.7 percentage points from May last year.
The Ranger recorded sales of 1,939 units, as consumers continued to drive robust demand for both manual- and automatic-transmission variants. The Ranger continues to be Ford’s best-selling nameplate, with year-to-date sales of 10,380 units.
The EcoSport compact sport-utility vehicle continued with its early success by delivering retail sales of 719 units.
The Ford Fiesta, including the new Fiesta EcoBoost Turbo and all 1.5-litre variants, achieved retail sales
that rose slightly from April to 516 units. Ford claims the 1.0-litre engine in the Fiesta EcoBoost Turbo provides the power and performance of a traditional 1.6-litre petrol engine, with good fuel efficiency and low emissions.
Ford recently hosted a real-world fuel-efficiency consumer challenge for the Fiesta EcoBoost Turbo, with nearly 100 licensed drivers participating. The best fuel efficiency in the challenge was 20.37 kilometres per litre (4.9 litres/100km).
