The Electricity Regulatory Commission resolved Thursday to raise the fuel tariff (FT) for the January-April round by 5 satang per unit.

Direk Lavansiri, chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission, said that the FT should have been raised by 6.99 satang per unit based on the actual increase in fuel cost.

Compensating the FT in this round is the Bt130.39 million fine imposed on the disruption of gas supply from the Yetagun gas field in Myanmar. Meanwhile, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand would shoulder another Bt939.48 million.

According to Direk, electricity generating cost in the round is expected to increase, as power demand is expected to increase by 2.2 per cent from the same period las tyear. Meanwhile, some power plants will have to use more bunker oil and diesel, as gas supply from Myanmar will be temporarily cut while gas supply from the Gulf of Thailand will be stopped.

The fuel cost is also influenced by the baht depreciation against US dollar, from 31.24 on average during the September-December round to 32.21.
