Export target will be reviewed on Sept 23
Thailand's commerce counsellors will convene on September 23 to review the 2013 export growth target.
Commerce Minister Niwatthumrong Boonsongpaisan said that they will also set the target for 2014, under the strategies that would be discussed.
"They will present the current update on the situation in their respective areas, so that we can come up with the right strategies. I have to say that all countries have suffered from a decline in exports. We will need new strategies to penetrate new markets," he said.
He is still convinced that the situation in the second half would be better than in the first half.
The Commerce Ministry sets the target to grow this year’s export revenue by 7.5 per cent.
Total Thai shipments in the first seven months rose only 0.60 per cent year on year to $132.36 billion. Imports grew 3.85 per cent to $150.42 billion.
Thailand was locked into a trade deficit of $18.05 billion in the first seven months.
