Conference to showcase edges of Malaysia

The upcoming 10th Invest Malaysia Institutional Investment Conference - or Invest Malaysia Kuala Lumpur 2014 - will showcase Malaysia's unique advantage as "Asean's multinational marketplace", the event's organisers said.

The two-day conference, which starts Monday, will present global fund managers with direct access to the diversity, sustainability and multinational growth of Malaysia's capital market.

Organised by Bursa Malaysia Berhad - formally known as the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange - and CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Invest Malaysia Kuala Lumpur 2014 (IMKL 2014) will showcase more than 50 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia, many of which are leaders in key sectors across Asean.

Dato' Tajuddin Atan, chief executive of Bursa Malaysia, said: "The PLCs [public listed companies] on showcase at IMKL 2014 highlight the diversity and sustainability of Bursa Malaysia as a highly competitive marketplace in the region," he said.

"Malaysian PLCs are transitioning into multinationals and competing well on the global stage. In some cases they are driving sectors in Asean and beyond and this development has propelled Bursa Malaysia into one of the leading marketplaces for investors looking to tap into the growth of this region." Last year, Bursa Malaysia emerged as the top listing destination in Asean for the second consecutive year on the back of charting an expansion of 184 per cent growth in market capitalisation over the last five years.

Additionally, Malaysia continues to rise in the rankings as one of the world's best places to do business.

Ranked sixth in the world by the World Bank for ease of doing business, Malaysia recently moved up three spots to become the "12th most competitive nation" according to the International Institute of Management Development.

Tengku Dato' Zafrul, chief executive of CIMB Investment Bank, highlighted Malaysia's competitive advantage, stating: "Malaysia offers tremendous growth opportunities for companies and investors.

"The country's economy remains resilient to exogenous impact and is further strengthened by the robust economic transformation programme, which continues to unlock vast business opportunities in key sectors and helps to fuel strong domestic demand and growth.

"Whether in financial services, oil and gas, banking, palm oil or aviation logistics, Malaysian PLCs offer diverse investment opportunities at the centre of Asean, as we will showcase at Invest Malaysia. CIMB, with its robust regional network and in-depth expertise, is able to effectively connect investors to these unique opportunities."
