Buyers of Samsung smart TVs equipped with the Showtime application can now watch exclusive content from leading pay-TV operator CTH, including live broadcasts of English Premier League (EPL) soccer matches.
CTH targets 100,000 subscribers this year from this Internet-protocol television (IPTV) service.
Nattawan Woranopakul, chief operating officer of CTH, said yesterday that this partnership with Thai Samsung Electronics would enhance the viewing experience from Samsung smart TVs.
CTH will offer three monthly subscription packages – full at Bt899, medium at Bt699 and mini at Bt499.
Samsung customers have to pay the subscription fee before accessing the exclusive content.
Last month, CTH partnered with Data CDMA Communication to provide pay-TV channels via an IPTV set-top box with the target of 350,000 subscribers this year.
CTH has also expanded its distribution channels via media outlets. It recently joined with GMM Z, a satellite-TV unit of GMM Grammy, to offer a high-definition package for the EPL via GMM Z set-top boxes. Under the partnership, the company targets a million subscribers.
CTH is also working with PSI Holdings, the country’s largest manufacturer and distributor of satellite-TV receivers, to bundle its key content, including the EPL, with new set-top boxes. The company aims for a million subscribers under this partnership.
CTH wants to boost its overall subscriber base to 1 million this year.
It is hoped that the CTH deal will help lift sales of Samsung smart TVs by 20-30 per cent this year.
Assawin Chusatapornkul, senior manager for the audio-visual business at Thai Samsung Electronics, said his company also planned to expand special services for users through such partnerships.
The company believes that content development would be a significant reason to maintain its leadership of the smart-TV market.
Last year if formed a “content service team” to manage and aggregate entertainment, sports and music programmes from leading local providers.
Programming would be distributed to customers via applications in its smart TVs and smart mobile devices, including tablets and phones.
