Businesses support late entry into AEC
Most business operators support the activation of Asean Economic Community in late 2015, according to a survey by the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce.
The survey showed that 95.56 per cent of respondents supported Thailand’s participation late 2015, rather than from January 1 of the year.
They also said that English and labour skill development is a must before the activation of the community, as well as an improvement in access to funding.
From 1,500 respondents representing 13 business sectors, Thai businesses have shown greater awareness in the AEC, from 24.7 per cent in 2010 to 97.78 per cent in 2012.
Among SMEs, the awareness rose from 20.5 per cent to 43.8 per cent. Awareness is the lowest among companies in the agricultural sector, followed by those in the construction and livestock sectors. They cited insufficient information distribution as the cause, particularly in small provinces.
