IP Department seeks better enforcement

The Intellectual Property Department is collaborating with 25 organisations to enhance enforcement of copyright law in preparation for the Asean Economic Community kicking in next year.
Kulanee Issadisai, deputy director-general of the department, said it was working closely with agencies such as the Customs Department, the Department for Special Investigation and Royal Thai Police, all of which have vowed to enforce intellectual-property laws stringently and punish violators.
To increase understanding on IP rights in Asean, the Philippines will host a regional meeting on the issue in October.

THAIFEX reports success
The annual THAIFEX-World of Food Asia fair reports outstanding success at this year’s event, with a record-breaking number of international participants. With a more than 20-per-cent increase in overseas exhibitors, the food fair once again reinforced its position as one of the most important food and hospitality trade fairs in Asia. The fair was held last month at Impact Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok.
Since it was officially launched in 2004, Thaifex has reached many milestones in the past decade. One of the major achievements is the increased scale of the show. This year, the number of exhibitors increased by almost 10 per cent and trade visitor numbers by 11 per cent.
In total, the show welcomed 1,463 exhibitors and 30,479 trade visitors, with 24,138 local visitors and 6,341 coming from overseas.
