20% of farmers to get paid soon
Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittirat Na Ranong believes the government can by the end of next month pay at least 20 per cent of the farmers still owed money from rice pledged during the current fiscal year, which began last October.
He made the remark as the Finance and Commerce ministries continue their efforts to find funds from the sale of rice via every possible channel, said a source from yesterday’s meeting of the caretaker Cabinet.
Turmoil dents MICE prospects
MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) revenue this year is now projected to miss the growth projection of 10 per cent, due to the prolonged political turmoil, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, president of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, said yesterday.
Last year, the MICE market generated revenue of Bt88 billion. This year, income is now forecast to grow by at least 6 per cent.
The bureau’s current financial year began in October.
Nopparat said the state of emergency introduced in January had clearly led a drop of around 20,000 MICE travellers visiting the Kingdom in the current quarter, resulting in a revenue loss of Bt1.8 billion.
