Turmoil dents MICE prospects
MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) revenue this year is now projected to miss the growth projection of 10 per cent, due to the prolonged political turmoil, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, president of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, said yesterday.
Last year, the MICE market generated revenue of Bt88 billion. This year, income is now forecast to grow by at least 6 per cent.
The bureau’s current financial year began in October.
Nopparat said the state of emergency introduced in January had clearly led a drop of around 20,000 MICE travellers visiting the Kingdom in the current quarter, resulting in a revenue loss of Bt1.8 billion.
