Auto manufacturing target maintained: FTI
Federation of Thai Industries Chairman Payungsak Chartsutipol is confident that Thailand's automotive output this year should stand at 2.55 million units as expected. The export target, of 1.15 million units, is maintained.
In the first eight months, 720,141 units had been exported.
His assurance followed a negative development in August. Thailand’s automotive output in August stood at 193,074 units, falling below 200,000 for the first time in 15 months, according to the Federation of Thai Industries’ Automotive Industry Club.
Surapong Paisitpattanapong, spokesman for the club, said that the monthly output was 9.94 per cent lower than the same month last year and 4.17 per cent down from July.
The output for the first eight months, at 1.7 million, still showed a 16.4 per cent increase from the same period last year. Accounting for 43.91 per cent of total, a number of 762,150 passenger cars were churned out in the period.
