Acer targets 25% revenue growth

Acer Computer Thailand aims to increase revenue by 25 per cent this year. In particular, it will focus on its ultrabook, notebook and Acer Cloud products.

Managing director Harry Yang said Acer would focus on multiple products ranging from mobile devices including ultrabooks, notebooks, netbooks, tablets and mobiles to desktop computing. Acer will introduce its eDC (e-enabling data centre) service to Thailand to help customers continue their operations even during natural disasters such as the flooding crisis of last year.

It plans to introduce Acer Cloud in Thailand to allow Acer users to keep and share their data across devices and platforms.

"Acer Cloud's concept is not too different from Apple's iCloud, but Acer Cloud allows users to share data across platforms."

According to International Data Corp, at the end of the third quarter last year, Acer had a 30-per-cent share of the notebook market and 26 per cent of the desktop market.

"Acer is No 1 in terms of market share. This year, we aim to maintain our leading market share in both notebooks and desktops," Yang said.

Last year, Acer's notebook and netbook sales grew 20 per cent, while those of desktops grew 9 per cent, and LCD projectors and other projectors increased 5 per cent each.

"For netbooks, the firm still has opportunities in Thailand and Indochina," Yang said.

Acer saw revenue grow 10 per cent in 2011, missing its target of 20 per cent because of the flooding crisis in the fourth quarter.

For 2012, Acer aims to grow sales in notebooks and netbooks by 30 per cent, desktops by 15 per cent, LCD projectors by 15 per cent and regular projectors by 30 per cent.

"Acer's revenue is usually divided between consumer and commercial products at a ratio of 70:30," Yang said.

Acer has reorganised into four teams focusing on notebooks, mobile phones and tablets; desktops and peripherals; commercial operations; and services. Each team consists of product, sales and marketing units.

"This year we will oversee new markets for Acer Thailand including [Burma], Cambodia and Laos," Yang said.
