The telecom committee of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission yesterday approved an additional 51,000 fixed-line telephone numbers for Advanced Wireless Network, a subsidiary of Advanced Info Service (AIS).

AWN requested the numbers to operate fixed-line services for corporate customers as it planned to expand its business to add to wireless and mobile phones.
Earlier, AWN obtained 4,000 fixed-line numbers from the NBTC.
So far the NBTC has awarded 19.1 million fixed-line numbers to eight telecom operators, including incumbents TOT (11.4 million), True Corp (4 million), TT&T (2.77 million) and CAT Telecom (257,000).
NBTC-licensed operators awarded fixed-line numbers are True Corp subsidiary True Universal Convergence (455,000), Triple T Broadband (144,000), AWN (55,000), and AIS subsidiary Super Broadband Network (2,000).
The commission has awarded 196 million mobile-phone numbers to five state and private mobile operators, and there are around 90 million active users.
