2013 inflation ends at 2.18%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) ended last year at 2.18 per cent, according to the Commerce Ministry.

It was further dragged down by the slight 1.67 per cent increase in December. Compared to the previous month, the December inflation edged up by only 0.14 per cent, though festive activities took place.

The 2013 projection, revised in the second half of 2013, was 2.1-2.6 per cent.

Inflation in Thailand has eased in line with that of other Asian countries, which also suffered from fragile global economic recovery. In the first 11 months of 2013, Singapore’s inflation was only 2.4 per cent and it was only 2.8 per cent in the Philippines. Those showing inflation above 5 per cent were India, Laos and Vietnam.
