Former education minister Kasem Sirisamphan died Wednesday of colon cancer, his wife said.

Siree Sirisamphan, the wife, said Kasem was admitted to the Phya Thai Hospital on April 19 after his colon cancer deteriorated.

He was pronounced dead at 12:50 pm.

Kasem used to be a national legislative assembly member, a senator, a secretary-general of the now-defunct Social Action Party and former deputy interior minister.
