With the number of senior citizens in Bangkok on the ise, Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra is planning to implement youth development projects while also taking care of the elderly.

Introducing the “Ageing Bangkok City” exhibition of works by mid-level metropolitan administrators taking part in training at City Hall on Wednesday, the governor said the number of elderly persons was increasing fast while the number of children was gradually and steadily declining, as urban couples choose to have fewer children.
As the children would need to take care of a much higher percentage of elderly citizens, the city felt it was necessary to teach young people be more socially responsible, he said. The city would push for all parties to understand the importance of senior citizens and help create a society in which people of all ages could co-exist in harmony, he added.
