World Cup final sets Facebook, Twitter records

Berlin - Germany's World Cup victory became the most discussed sports event on Facebook, generating a record 280 million interactions during the game against Argentina on Sunday.

The previous record of 200 million interactions between 66 million users was set during Germany's 7-1 win against Brazil in the semi-final on Tuesday.
Twitter registered 618,725 tweets per minute after the final whistle on Sunday, beating the previous record of 580,166 per minute that followed Sami Khedira's fifth goal for Germany against Brazil five days ago.
During the whole game, 32.1 million messages were recorded, less than the record 35.6 million during Germany's thrashing of Brazil in thes emi-finals.
Mario Goetze, who scored the game's only goal in extra-time, and Argentine star Lionel Messi got the most mention on both social media websites.
