Wall St ends up, S&P 500 at new high

U.S. stocks closed slightly up amid sluggish trading overnight, with the S&P 500 closing at a new high, amid mixed earnings reports and weaker-than-expected existing home sales.

Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.81 points to close at 15,545.55, led by Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.

S&P 500 rose 3.44 points at 1,695.53, a new high led by financial stocks, while energy stocks fell.

Nasdaq composite advanced 12.77 points to close at 3,600.39.
