Wall St ends up

U.S. stocks closed up, triple digits gains for Dow Jones, while Nasdaq turned positive for the year, after Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen reassured Wall Street that the Fed would continue with monetary stimulus.

Dow Jones Industrial Average added 192.98 points, or 1.2 per cent, to close at 15,994.77.

Energy led gains among the 10 major sectors on S&P 500, which gained 19.91 points, or 1.1 per cent, at 1,819.75.

Nasdaq added 42.87 points, or 1 per cent, at 4,191.04.

Advancers outdid decliners by a more-than 3-to-1 ratio, with almost 710 million shares traded.
