U.S. stocks closed near session highs in volatile session overnight as traders were encouraged by Greece's Prime Minister's stance to back down from national referendum on the country's bailout package coupled with ECB rate cut.
However, Greece has yet to make a final decision on the bailout referendum.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 208.43 points, or 1.76 per cent to close at 12,044.47,
The S&P 500 gained 23.25 points, or 1.88 per cent, to close at 1,261.15. All 10 S&P sectors finished higher, led by industrials and energy.
The Nasdaq surged 57.99 points, or 2.20 per cent, to close at 2,697.97.
