Wall St end lower

U.S. stocks closed lower after news from China hit commodity prices amid concern over Ukraine, while investors await economic signals.

S&P 500 slipped 9.54 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 1,867.63, with energy and materials shares hardest hit; all but one of the 10 major sectors in the red.

Nasdaq composite fell 27.26 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 4,307.19.
