US stocks end lower ahead of Fed policy meet

U.S. stocks closed slightly lower as investors remain on sideline a day before Federal Reserve meet to consider stimulus cut.

Dow Jones Industrial Average finished at 15,875.26, down 9.31 points, or less than 0.1 per cent.

S&P 500 fell 5.54 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 1,781.00, with telecom shares leading laggard, while materials stocks are best performers

of the 10 major sectors.

Nasdaq lost 5.84 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 4,023.68.
