Tourists injured in Surat bus crash

A coach packed with foreign tourists crashed into a bridge over the Tapee River in Surat Thani’s Muang district on Thursday, injuring a dozen of them.
Police found the coach, registered to ASR Transport Inc, had become stuck beneath the bridge. Half the roof had been sheared off.
The driver, Anurak Puphiromya, 34, told police that Songserm Rungrueng Tour had hired him to transport the tourists from Krabi to Sura Thani.
He claimed he was not familiar with the route, so he asked a local resident to lead him in the right direction a car. He said he did not notice the bridge as he was focused on following the leading car.
Some tourists had severe head injuries and required scan, while the others suffered slight injuries such as bruising.
