Thammasat rector defends Nitirat
Thammasat University rector Somkid Lertpaithoon Friday defended the Nitirat group of law lecturers and its leader Worachet Pakeerut over their campaign for amendment to the lese majeste law.
Somkid said that he believed Nitirat, which includes a handful of TU law lecturers, had good intention and did not want Article 112 of the Penal Code involving lese majeste to be enforced unnecessarily. He also said that it was "untrue" Worachet, who is also a law lecturer at the university, and other Nitirat members were ungrateful to the monarchy and part of a movement to overthrow the institution.
"Nitirat has the constitutional right to do their campaign. The problem is they have raised too many issues so they are opposed," he said.
