Thailand to start talks with Muslim rebels in two weeks
Kuala Lumpur - Talks between Thailand and a Muslim separatist rebel group are to start in two weeks, a senior Thai security official said Thursday.
Thai National Security Council chief Paradorn Patthannathabutr said Malaysia would facilitate the meeting by taking representatives of the Muslim rebel group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) to a location in Thailand.
Paradorn and Hassan Taib, head of the BRN’s liaison office in Malaysia, earlier signed a deal in Kuala Lumpur aimed at jump-starting peace talks between the two sides.//DPA
