Supreme Administrative Court awards Bt3.8m to 22 Klity villagers
Haunted by lead contamination for 15 years, Klity villagers has now scored a decisive victory over the state pollutioncontrol agency in the country's first environmental case to get a final court ruling.
The Supreme Administrative Court Thursday ordered the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to pay Bt3.8million compensation to 22 villagers living around Klity Creek in Kanchanaburi and also to rehabilitate their local environment. The PCD is now required to draw up a rehabilitation plan for tainted water, soil and vegetable and monitor its implementation for a year until the lead contamination drop to standard level.
