Without mentioning any name, Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said the governor of the State Railway of Thailand should have come out to take responsibility after a passenger was raped and killed on board a train.
Speaking during his weekly TV programme, Prayuth the chief of the National Council for Peace and Order, said all levels of supervisors must show responsibility for what happened.
Following the incident, the public called on Prapat Chongsa-gnuan to resign to show his responsibility but he vowed to stay on to solve problems in the SRT. But the NCPO issued an order Thursday night to sack Prapat.
Prayuth expressed condolences over the incident, and called on the media not to feature provocative content or images in their coverage of the case.
