Referendum cannot be held before election: EC member Somchai

Election Commission member Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said Monday that a public referendum on political reform cannot be held before the February 2 election.

Somchai said a public referendum needs 90 days for preparations and the two sides of the conflicts would need time to present their causes to the public.

As a result, the February 2 election would have to be held first.
