Public drivers' database planned

Land Transport Department plans strict rules on the qualifications of the drivers of public vehicles and trucks transporting hazardous goods, hoping to reduce road accidents.

Wattana Phattharachon, the deputy director-general of the department, said over 90 per cent of road accidents are caused by human. 
For greater safety, a database centre will be in place to collect drivers' personal data, training sessions and other records. 
Wattana said that the centre should be operational within March.
