Over 5,900 people killed in southern insurgency during ten years

Yala - The southern insurgency that flared up ten years ago saw 15,192 violent incidents happen, killing 5,926 people and injuring 10,593 others, the forward command of the Internal Security Operations Command announced Thursday.

The forward command of the ISOC Region 4 reported that the 15,192 violent incidents happened during January 4 2004 to December 31 2013.

Of the deaths, 3,461 were Muslims and 2,431 Buddhists. The rest practised other religions, the report from the forward command stated.

Of the injured people, 3,761 are Muslims, 6,694 Buddhists and 138 others practise other religions.
