WASHINGTON - A strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake jolted northern Peru on Saturday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The temblor struck at 7:51 pm (2351 GMT) just off Peru's Pacific coast, six kilometers (three miles) west of Sechura. It had a depth of nine kilometers, the USGS reported.
The area is close to Peru's border with Ecuador.
There were no immediate of major damage or injuries.
