Paris - The new French government is to be unveiled Tuesday after Prime Minister Manuel Valls presented the government's resignation to President Francois Hollande in the morning, the presidency says.

Hollande immediately tasked Valls with "forming a team that iscoherent with the positions that he (Hollande) defined for our country," the presidency says.
The move by Valls came as a surprise. It comes after Economy Minister Arnaud Montebourg, who is to the left of the ruling Socialists, criticised the government's deficit-cutting programme at the weekend and called for a change of direction.
