NACC insists it has authority to probe Yingluck over all alleged incitements by ministers

The deputy secretary general of the National Anti-Corruption Commission insisted Wednesday that the NACC had authority to investigate caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra over alleged incitements to violence by two of her ministers.

The NACC has set up a panel to investigate Yingluck over a complaint filed by Wirat Kalayasiri, a Democrat legal expert.

Wirat alleged that Yingluck had committed nonfeasance for failing to stop caretaker Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan and Nuttawut Saikuar from inciting red-shirt people to commit violence.

Caretaker Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobarmrung said the NACC could not investigate Yingluck over the issue because Yingluck is not an officer to the Criminal Code.

But Witthaya Arkhom, deputy NACC secretary general, said the NACC was empowered by the NACC Act to conduct an investigation against the prime minister when someone had filed a complaint against her.
