Thanpyuzayat - A 42-year-old man went on a shooting spree on Monday in Wunkaba Village, Thanpyuzayat, Mon State, reports say, killing five people and wounding five others.

Reports say the suspect, Ko Yone, was under the influence of drugs during the shooting. He was shot to death by military personnel after he fired on them with a firearm he stole from a militia member called U Shay.

Yo Kone also allegedly set fire to his house before attacking his neighbours with a sword. The fire spread from his house and destroyed four nearby houses.

“Some said he was insane. Some said he was too high. Five died on the spot, and the other five or six people are wounded. They are now receiving treatment at the Mawlamyine and Thanpyuzayat general hospitals,” said Wunna, a resident of Wunkaba Village.
