Machinery to replace workers
Most business operators in Samut Songkhram are replacing workers with machinery, to cope with higher daily wage, said Samphan Phongphannakul, president of the provincial chamber of commerce.
He noted that though the machinery requires a lump sum amount, but the operators foresee long-term benefits.
Minimum wage in the province went up from Bt245 a day last year to Bt300 this year.
He said many in the retail sector have shut down their business, as they cannot replace workers with machinery to take care of their shops.
