Koh Samet fishermen call for rehab fund
About 100 fishermen from Koh Samet on Thursday submitted a petition to Deputy Agriculture Minister Siriwat Kachornprasart, urging for the establishment of a rehabilitation fund.
Led by Jaturas Aimvoraniran, the fisherman said they were affected by the oil leak incident in July. Though the oil stain on Ao Phrao was removed two months after that, their lives are not yet in normal condition.
Jaturas said that there was fewer fish to catch and there were fewer buyers on safety concern. He said that PTT Global Chemical which was responsible for the incident should come up with full compensation. The fishermen should be fully compensated until normal condition returns.
