Kodak to stop making digital cameras
New York - Bankrupt photography giant Kodak is to stop making digital cameras in order to save 100 million dollars a year and focus on the profitable areas of its business, the company announced Thursday.
Kodak invented digital cameras in 1975, only to see the new devices eventually spread and destroy the company’s core business of selling film. However, the digital camera business has also fallen off sharply in recent years as consumers make do with the cameras that are built in smartphones.
Kodak, which filed for bankruptcy last month, said it would explorer licencing its name to another company making digital cameras while it focuses on its line of computer printers, photo kiosks and labs and its film and photographic paper businesses.//DPA
