Tokyo (dpa) - Japan has relaxed its visa requirements for visitors from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam in order to boost the number of Asian tourists, the government said Tuesday.

The validity of multiple-entry visas for citizens of the three countries has been extended to up to five years from three years, the Foreign Ministry said.

Japan also exempts applicants from requirements to submit documents showing their savings if they have visited Japan and any of other Group of Seven industrialized countries in the last three years, the ministry said.

The government is hoping to increase the number of foreign tourists to 20 million a year by 2020, after hitting the 10 million mark in 2013.
