At least seven rangers were injured when Muslim insurgents launched three simultaneous attacks against troops and police in Narathiwat's Joh I Rong district before some of them fled inside a hospital and exchanged gunfire with the authorities there.
In the first attack, four insurgents on two motorcycles fired at a unit of policemen guarding the Joh I Rong district railway station at 4 pm. The insurgents also fired an M79 grenade against police and rangers that pursued them but no one was injured in the two firings.
In the second attack, about ten insurgents fired M79 grenades at a post of rangers near the Joh I Rong Hospital, injuring seven rangers.
The insurgents then fled into the hospital and exchanged gunfire with the authorities for over an hour before they fled by passing themselves among the fleeing patients.
In the third attack, insurgents detonated a homemade bomb on a roadside in Yaning village of Tambon Juab. No one was injured.
