India's BJP projected to win first majority in 30 years

NEW DELHI - India's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to win the first parliamentary majority by a single party in 30 years, two television channels projected on Friday based on preliminary results.

NDTV and CNN-IBN forecast the BJP would win 272 out of 543 seats in the parliament on its own, with the right-wing BJP-led National Democratic Alliance coalition set to score between 316 and 328 seats.
